Cognitive Debriefing Services
ISPOR-compliant patient interviews to validate translated clinical outcome assessments.
What is Cognitive Debriefing?
Cognitive debriefing is a critical step in linguistic validation: native-speaking patients from the target population review a translated clinical outcome assessment (COA) and explain, in their own words, what each item means to them. This confirms the translation is clear, culturally relevant, and conceptually equivalent to the source instrument.
Regulators including the US FDA and the EMA expect cognitive debriefing as evidence of content validity for translated instruments used in clinical trials. Without it, sponsors risk data that is not comparable across languages and submissions that are challenged at review.
Cethos conducts cognitive debriefing in accordance with ISPOR Good Practices, using trained in-country moderators, structured probing, and complete documentation — so your PRO, ClinRO, ObsRO, and PerfO instruments stand up to both regulatory and psychometric scrutiny.
